Together but never on top of each other
The two houses stand a field apart, and that is the whole point.
Everyone eats together under the pergola as the sun goes down. Then the Colonica's eight drift back to their own pool and their own fire; the Fienile's four climb to theirs, high in the garden with the valley below. Children in one pool, grandparents in the other — or the other way around, by mid-week.
You are a group when you want to be, and a family or a couple again the moment you don't. Nobody is ever trapped in the same four walls, and nobody has to drive anywhere to find the others. It is the rarest thing to arrange for twelve people: closeness without crowding.
